100 Days Smarter!
February 2023 Newslette
Principal’s Message
100 days smarter! Yes, our students celebrated their first one hundred days of school. The excitements was evident with our primary grades who made crowns, masks, and played math games with a focus on 10s and 100s. It has been a real pleasure watching the growth in all our students in these first 100 days. February also had us celebrating Valentines Day with an exciting school dance. Thank you to Blewett Pac for making this a fun event for all, and thanks to those able to donate a toonie toward our future popcorn machine (we raised about $100 at the dance)! I even got to break out my M.C. skills with the kids as we danced, limboed, worked a conga line, and gave out prizes for best dressed, most enthusiastic dancers, and more!
As we are wrapping up winter activities our minds are looking forward to spring activities. More info to come on this.

Kindergarten Registration happening for the 2023-24 year!
We are now accepting and encouraging Kindergarten registrations for the 2023-24 school year. We strongly urge you to get your registration forms in as soon as possible. If you live outside the Blewett catchment area and wish to enroll your child at Blewett School (especially if older siblings already attend our school) you must register your child between now and March 31st, 2023, in order to have your best chance at a placement at our school. A completed transfer form must be received at the School Board office by 4:00 pm on March 31st. Please note that with spring break March 20 – 31), it would be best to have your transfer forms into the school no later than March 17th.
At this time the School District School Catchment policy about the Blewett School catchment area states: “Commencing on the South side of the Kootenay River at the Eastern junction of Highway 3A and Granite Road and proceeding West on Granite Road to and including the City of Nelson Power Plant then commencing at and including the Residences on Cora Linn Road East on Highway 3A to the point of commencement.” Also please note: above the highway the Blewett catchment area includes up to but not including the residences on Viewridge Road.
Please contact the school or visit our district website at www.sd8.bc.ca for a registration form. Please get your registration forms in and tell your friends and neighbours.
Winter Activities!
Please remember to send your children to school appropriately dressed for cold weather and their associated activity. Extra snacks and warm drinks are appreciated by many children at the end of their day.
For skiers/snowboarders – please remember that we need to have notes if you are not taking the bus back with us. And parents – you can only transport your own child this year. It is also important for us to know you have taken responsibility for your child so please check in with us (face to face) before we leave. If we don’t have a note or we don’t make contact with you, your children will come back with us on the bus. Thank you!
Emails to Jane/Blewett School
If you need to email the school for any reason, please use the following email address: clerical.bes@sd8.bc.ca. This email is checked regularly so we hope not to miss any messages from you. Thank you!
Valuing our ENVIRONMENT and Going Green!
Let’s keep taking care of our environment! Parents – we need your help! Please look at what you are sending to school in lunches: could you package or buy in bulk and put those foods in reusable containers? Could your child bring water or juice in a reusable bottle?
We are trying our best, as a whole school, to be environmentally caring. What your child brings to school should go back with them at the end of the day. This includes any recycling material. We do appreciate your support! - Blewett Staff
BPAC
Well, we made it! We are halfway through this school year! It's still not too late to join a Blewett PAC meeting though. All parents are welcome to be part of the conversation. PAC is working on some exciting ideas - movie night, bake sale…..do you have more fundraising ideas to share? We would love to hear your ideas so that we can save up to buy a new school popcorn machine. We would also love to hear any other ideas or concerns that affect the Blewett Elementary community. Share your thoughts at our next meeting on Tuesday Feb. 14th at 5:45. Please RSVP to blewettpac@gmail.com so that we can make sure there’s enough pizza and fruit/veggies.
Professional Development Day and Family Day
Just a reminder that Friday, Feb. 17th is a Professional Development Day and Monday, Feb. 20th is Family Day. Please note there is no school for students these days. Have a fun long weekend!!
Coupon Books
If you have a coupon book at home that you don’t plan on buying or selling, please return it to the school.
