At Blewett Elementary School we take pride in the many options for students outside of the regular curriculum. Here are some great pics of the recent basketball tournament at Hume school. Thanks to Mr. Hammerich for organizing this district event for teams from around the district and to Mr. Wheeler for coaching. Students also participate in a variety of clubs at recess such as our chess club. See pictures below.

Monica Nissen from "Wild Sight" brought Ms. Verigin's class to the outdoors to learn about animal habitats. Wildsight works locally, regionally and globally to protect biodiversity and encourage sustainable communities in Canada’s Columbia and Rocky Mountain regions.
Students had fun learning about life in the "subnivean zone". Yes, this space between the ground and snow is full of life with homes built by small critters of all types. While tracking animals in the snow, they found signs of a snowshoe hare, mice, and many other animals of our forest.

Taanishi! Way!

This year at Blewett Elementary, one of our whole-school focused literacy goals is improving oral literacy skills. To support this goal in an Indigenized way we have been focusing largely on the traditions of oral storytelling. Oral story telling is a central part of Indigenous ways of knowing and Indigenous pedagogies. Speaking, listening, and sharing through story has always been a powerful method for teaching, learning, and connecting within Indigenous communities.
