Solar Eclipse, World Travels, and Family Movie Night!
What's Happening at Blewett Elementary School?
Well the pace at BES is picking up with spring activities. Our amazing Blewett PAC organized a successful family movie night this week and are now focussing on the year end barbecue, a refresh of the front flower bed, a mulch fundraiser, new signage for the school, and much more. Thank you BPAC!
Also....
Mr. Hammerich’s World Explorations: Mr Hammerich has been showing students video and pictures of his travels to different parts of the world. The above picture shows his exploration of regions in Morroco! What a great opportunity to engage students in learning about our world.
Solar Eclipse: Each class spent time learning about the solar eclipse. Students created models and diagrams to understand how our solar system work. Students were also taught about sun safety.
MDI Survey: Students in grade four have been participating in the Middle Years Development Instrument (MDI). The MDI is a survey that asks about areas of child development that are strongly linked to well-being, health and academic achievement. The project is administered by researchers at UBC. Schools, government, and communities can use MDI information to improve supports and services for children.
Kindies Reach a Milestone: Earlier this month was an exciting time for our Kindergarten students as they were given a tour of the entire school grounds. They are now able to move freely from the main playground to explore a larger envirnoment. They are growing, learning, and achieving independence. Way to go Kindies!
Numeracy Nest: Blewett School is developing a room that focuses on themes of numeracy. This room will have resources, games, and a fun atmosphere for learning. We are hoping to have the room complete and ready to go by September.
