Date: Nov 28-Dec 2, 2022

Good day Everyone. I hope you’re enjoying the snow because it seems there is lots more coming our way! With the snow comes lots of creative winter activities from building snow structures to avalanche awareness activities.

Mr. Hammerich’s class had the opportunity this week to work with Oscar White from Avalanche Canada. Students learned about dangerous snow conditions and basic life saving techniques in avalanche situations. The students had fun using probes and shovels in team activities to develop their avalanche awareness.

Join the Club!

Two clubs are well underway at Blewett Elementary School. Ms. Nelson has been meeting every Wednesday at long recess with kids who want to learn how to knit. I wonder who can knit the longest scarf!

On Thursdays, Mr. Konken leads the chess club. We had a whopping 18 students come out for our first session and the kids left excited to be learning some new mini games on the chess board. We will eventually have a chess tournament with prizes.

Student and Family Affordability Fund

This year the ministry has provided each school with a sum of money to help families with the burden of raised grocery and supply costs. Blewett Elementary School would like to use this fund for families who need support for any of the following:

- food/hot lunch/breakfast for Learning.
- School supplies fees covered for families who need financial support
- February 2023 Winter Activities lowered cost for ALL families
- Field trips for all classes - financially subsidized to reduce cost

You should have received an e-mail from me outlining some of the details of this fund and if you feel that it would be helpful to your family to access some of this support, please do not hesitate to contact me or Jane at the school.

Christmas Performance:

Many of our staff, students, and families are still dealing with this nasty bug that’s going around and we feel that bringing everyone together before the holidays would put people in a vulnerable position. Therefore, the difficult decision was made to keep this winter performance online. We hope that this will be our last online performance for families and we will be back to face to face performances after the winter. We will pre-record this event for your family viewing at home. More information will come directly from your child’s teacher. Thank you for your understanding.

Have a great Week,

Jordon Konken- Principal (BES)
