We had a very special time this week as Blewett Elementary focussed on themes of kindness to help celebrate Pink Shirt Day. Our assembly was awash in a sea of pink shirts worn by every student.

Students from Mr. Hammerich's class recited poems from the perspective of a bully, a victim, and an "upstander". Ms. Walker's class recited a poem about kindness, and Ms. Verigin's class did read alouds on "how to be a friend". I even had an opportunity to sing a song with the students called "Smile".  This is a sing along I wrote specially for this occasion and conveys the message that when we show kindness to one person, the world shows kindness back. Thank you to all the students and staff that sang together from their hearts. :) 

Friday was also our first bake sale put on by our K/1 class. Thank you to those parents who were able to share some of their delicious treats. This is a BPAC innitiative to help raise money for our popcorn machine. Our next bake sale will be on March 17th hosted by Ms. Verigin's gr 1/2 class. 

Also, BPAC has sent home order forms for BES swag. If you would like to purchase a hoodie, t-shirt, tote bag, etc... the deadline to have these back to the school is March 3rd. 

We are fortunate to have had author Sarah Elliman visit our school. Her newest book is called "A Tree Just Like Me." More info on it can be found on her website. It is a beautiful story that was inspired at least in part by Suzanne Simard's research on how trees communicate with each other in forest communities. Sarah will be doing a workshop in our primary grade classrooms.
