Sports are Back!
Date: Oct 17-21
Well, we’re still in the heart of fall and the sun just keeps on shining. I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving weekend with lots of food and family connections. And speaking of food, I’d like to say thanks to all the parent volunteers that have been chipping in to help with our hotlunch program, This program helps raise funds for a variety of PAC initiatives and more importantly, it keeps kids fed with options that ultimately promote health and learning!
Sports are Back!
On Friday, we had our first district cross country track meet in three years. Our students were amazing! Each racer pushed themselves to the finish line with true grit. Way to go Blewett Elementary School! I’d like to thank Mr. Hammerich for organizing our team for this fun event and all the parents who were on hand to help make the meet a success!

The Week at a Glance
Parent Volunteers: Parents have been inquiring about volunteering opportunities at our school. I will be hosting a volunteer orientation this week to get as many approved volunteers as possible to help support the variety of activities both in and out of the classroom at BES. The orientation will take about 20 minutes. Please read SD8's Volunteers Administrative Procedure here: https://www.sd8.bc.ca/sites/default/files/AP%20300.3%20Volunteers_2.pdf.
Note that the district requires volunteers in the school to have a criminal records check done. Our first orientation sessions will be this Thursday at 2:30 pm and 4:30 pm. You only need to attend one of these 20 min sessions. More opportunities for orientation will come up throughout the school year.
FSAs : Foundational Skills Assessment will continue this week for grade 4s. Students in attendance on the days of the FSAs will be expected to participate in the assessment.
Earthquake drill : We will be having our annual “B.C. Shakeout” on Thursday Oct 20th. We will join the whole province in a emergency earthquake drill that is both informative and a bit entertaining as well.
Pro D: Provincial Professional Development Day - no school for students - Friday, October 21
Halloween Festivities this Saturday (Oct 22nd)
Our PAC is busy planning our Halloween fundraiser with the help of many volunteers. The outdoor festivities will start at 6:00pm on Saturday with a fireworks finale at 8:00pm. A reminder that the Halloween haunted house and dance party will be the following week (28th) at the NDYC.
