Superintendent's Report - October 2026

October is a month of thanks, energy and a great deal of outdoor activity as fall arrives. SD8 schools embodied that gratitude throughout the first month of school as students participated in fresh air activities and learning across the district.

Students and staff marked the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation with assemblies and learning at all SD8 schools including Trafalgar Middle School and Adam Robertson Elementary where a sea of orange shirts communicated support for every child. Students also learned from the land: Redfish Elementary classes visited the Kokanee Creek Nature Centre, and Brent Kennedy Elementary celebrated Apple Day and raised funds through the Terry Fox Run as did Hume Elementary and South Nelson Elementary.

Belonging takes many forms, from House Teams at Canyon-Lister Elementary to a wide range of school clubs at L.V. Rogers Secondary.

I also invite families this month to read through the Literacy Continuous Learning Report. Grade 4 and 7 literacy results are above the provincial average. We continue to focus on closing gaps in literacy achievement for Indigenous students and students with diverse abilities.

Enjoy this October issue of the Superintendent's Report. I am incredibly thankful for all that families do to participate in and support SD8 school communities, so children are well and ready to learn every day.

Warmly,

Trish
